The Saenuri Party pledges to place the happiness of Korean citizens at the top of our agenda and to pursue all policies according to the will of the people. Korea is a proud country that liberated from Japanese rule and established itself against continuous domestic and foreign threats. Moreover, Korea successfully achieved both industrialization and democratization in the shortest time in history. Based on the very identity and conservative values of our country – liberal democracy, market economy, and rule of law – the Saenuri Party led Korea’s dynamic development through innovation, sacrifice, and a sense of duty.

Korea now faces new challenges, both internally and externally. On the global front, recurring economic crises and politico-military conflicts are resulting in growing uncertainties. On the domestic front, our future progress is threatened by such issues as the growing gap between national development and people’s level of happiness, stagnation of growth potential and growth without jobs, deepening polarization and inequality, and acceleration of trends in low birth rate and aging society.

The Saenuri Party pledges to overcome these challenges and to turn them into opportunities to transform Korea into a “happy nation” where all citizens live a decent life and make it a respected member on the global stage. To this end, we have revised the party platform and announced our “Pledge to the People,” and we are determined and committed to fulfilling this pledge.

Recognizing that growth and welfare must exist side-by-side to meet the needs of the times, we will build an effective welfare system and a more thorough social safety net. Our customized lifelong welfare system aims to support the self-realization of all Korean citizens, especially neglected and minority groups, and we will restore dynamism in our society by rebuilding the ladder of opportunity.

We aim to establish a fair market economy. We plan to stimulate the economy through autonomy and accountability, decentralization and originality, and market opening and competition. We will narrow social inequalities and gaps by establishing fair and transparent market order, and ensure that all Korean people reap the benefits of economic growth and market opening.

Through flexible and proactive policies toward North Korea based on principles of mutual existence and co-prosperity, we will promote mutual development and peace between the two Koreas and lead the way for the future era of a unified Korean Peninsula. Denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula must be realized, and we will pursue a balanced diplomacy of both principle and flexibility to achieve peace on Korean Peninsula while placing national interest as a priority.

We will solidify the principles of local government, separation of power, and rule of law. We will advance Korea into a cultural powerhouse. We will ensure freedom of press, and promote the rights of Koreans living abroad. We will reflect the will of the people in our policies through open communication and promotion of public opinion. We will eradicate outdated politics and renew ourselves as a party of policies, of the people, and of the nation.

With the aim of making Korea a “Happy Nation,” we will pursue all policies with “harmony” and “integration” as the main keywords. We will seek harmony between growth and welfare, market and government, freedom and equality, efficiency and balance, and environmental conservation and economic development, and take an integrated approach to eliminate conflicts between classes, generations, regions, and ideologies.
