North Korea’s Nuclear Test :
Provocation against Stability in the Korean Peninsula Cannot Be Allowed
On January 6, 10:00 am, an artificial earthquake with 5.1 degrees of intensity was observed in Punggye-ri, Gilju, North Hamkyeong Province. After that, the North Korean government announced a statement claiming that they had successfully tested a hydrogen bomb.
It is very astonishing that North Korea conducted the nuclear test in spite of the firm opposition of the international community.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) defined North Korea’s nuclear experiment as an illegal act and prohibited them from conducting any kind of launch using the ballistic missile technology.
Especially, the UNSC expressed, through its resolution 2094 (2013) that was approved by both of China and Russia, “its determination to take further significant measures in the event of a further DPRK (North Korea) launch or nuclear test.” The North Korean government should be aware of this resolution.
We urge the North Korean government to stop the provocation disturbing the stability in the Korean Peninsula. This nuclear test cannot be allowed under any circumstance.
Saenuri Party condemns in the strongest terms North Korea’s nuclear ambition which causes instability and increasing tension in the Peninsula and beyond.
In the National Assembly, all parties will approve in adopting a resolution denouncing the North Korea’s ongoing nuclear activities. Also, we will hold committee meetings in the Assembly for countermeasure and spare no efforts to take care of this situation.
Our government should be fully ready for emergency management to dispel our people’s fear. Necessary sanctions should be imposed on North Korea under a tight collaboration with the international community. The government should reinforce the alliance with the U.S. and keep the close cooperation with China trying to resume the Six-party talks as soon as possible.
